The first step to success is to analyze yourself and your current situation. Where do you stand as of today? Do the self-assessment to benchmark your current position. This is the most important step and starting point that will set the future course of action. 

The SWOT analysis is the best technique and analytical tool that will help you in this step. Do the SWOT analysis and find your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. 

This step sets a benchmark and starting point for your next steps towards success.

2- Set your Goals

The next step is to set your goals and objectives. Without clear destinations, it is impossible to set directions, and likewise, without clear goals and objectives, it is impossible to know what to achieve and how to accomplish it. Therefore, setting your goals and objectives will give you a clear direction and steps to be taken to achieve them.

The golden rules for setting the goals are the method of SMART and CLEAR Goals.

  • Time-bound – To create a timeframe to achieve every goal

CLEAR GOALS

  • Collaborative – The goal should encourage employees to work together
  • Limited – They should be limited in scope and time to keep it manageable
  • Emotional – Goals should tap into the passion of employees
  • Appreciable – Break larger goals into smaller tasks that can be quickly achieved
  • Refinable – As new situations arise, be flexible and refine goals as needed

3- Create a Plan – Set measurable criteria of success

Goals and objectives can be generalized, but the criteria for success shall be defined. Define what success means to you? It can differ from individual to individual. Success for some is being rich, but for others, it is becoming a good person.

Create a plan and set measurable criteria for success with timelines once you have set your goals. Identify milestones so that you can measure your progress. You can define your criteria based on numerical values or any other parameter that defines the achievement of your goals and objectives. 

4- Prepare Yourself

When this self-analysis and goal setting is complete, you must be aware of your strengths and weaknesses in order to achieve those goals. Minimize your weaknesses as much as possible. Enhance your skills and strong areas for perfection. 

Minimize the obstacles that could slow you down on your path to success. Get the education you need first, or learn new skills if you need to! Nothing should demotivate you from succeeding.  

5- Work Hard

It’s time for action. It will take hard work to reach your goals. There is no shortcut to success, to get and to achieve something big we need to constantly work hard and smart. Do not delay making decisions or taking action. 

The harder you work, the easier it will be to realize your dreams. Working hard is a skill you can develop, and once you learn how to do so, the feeling of working hard can be deeply satisfying.

Consistency is the key to success and progress. Whenever you do something consistently and with dedication, you will see progress and growth. Keep your focus on your objectives and don’t let anything distract you. 

Avoid all types of distractions coming your way and consistently chase your dreams till the time you become successful.

7- Don’t Give up

People tend to give up easily and quickly when facing a difficult situation. Your goals must be adamantly pursued. Life is full of hard times, and we all go through them at some point.

Don’t give up despite difficulties or hard times during the journey to success. Keep a positive attitude and envision a good time that is just a step away. 

8- Measure Progress 

Keep track of the progress of your plan constantly. Review it against the deadlines and milestones you set. Monitoring progress in terms of completing tasks and achieving goals is extremely important.

You should update your plans with early or late completions and revise them accordingly. When a milestone or timeline is delayed, analyze the reasons and try to reduce the factors contributing to the delay.

9- Take Risk

The ability to reach milestones more quickly always comes from taking calculated and well-planned risks. Take a risk whenever you think it’s worth it!

A successful life requires effective communication skills.  Communication skills are crucial to many careers. It is also generally true that people with good communication skills have better interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients.

Learning how to improve your communication is a very valuable skill. Your interpersonal relationships at work will almost certainly improve if you improve your communication skills. Investing time in improving communications is very certainly worth it.

12- Expand Network

You need to build a network if you want to grow professionally. You should remember that networking is about establishing relationships. In order to build your network, you go out and meet as many people as possible.

When meeting someone for the first time, make sure you don’t just talk about yourself; find out what the other person does for a living. You must be prepared to network everywhere you go. Networking will boost your growth and success rate.
